Gabriel Haddad e Leonardo Bora

Anyplace, 2026

Qualquer lugar (Anyplace) references the work of Fernando Pinto (Recife, PE, 1945 – Rio de Janeiro, RJ, 1987), the Carnival art director responsible for parades that transcend time and space. In Tropicália Maravilha (1980) he publicly requested amnesty for political prisoners of the military dictatorship; in Tupinicópolis (1987) he imagined a retrofuturistic indigenous megalopolis; and in Ziriguidum 2001 – Um carnaval nas estrelas (1985) he proposed a trip to the limits of outer space.

These political and delirious narratives, all of which were created for samba school Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel, inspired the spheric sculpture of Gabriel Haddad and Leonardo Bora, made of costumes, electrical wires and antennas in colours that evoke the artist’s palette. The cell, or reflective core, emits sounds that mix echoes of past Carnivals in an attempt to communicate with future festivities, sending messages into space.
