Orbs, 2026
The shape of Orbes (Orbs) refers to spirals, circularity and infinity, ideas present in the worldview of Carnival art director Maria Augusta Rodrigues (Rio de Janeiro, RJ, 1942–2025).
This installation engages with astrology and chromotherapy, themes dear to the artist, and brings together silver wires and crystal fibreglass spheres, revisiting forms and techniques explored by Maria Augusta in two parades for samba school União da Ilha do Governador: Domingo (1977) and O amanhã (1978); as well as Uni-duni-tê, a Beija-Flor escolheu: é você (1993), created for Beija-Flor de Nilópolis.
The spheres are lighted from within in various colours, evoking a central feature of the research conducted by Maria Augusta, who was also a professor teaching colour theory at Escola de Belas Artes (UFRJ).
