Espaço Petrobras (Petrobras Space) is a creative platform dedicated to the art practice of young artists. It is the result of the partnership between the Museu de Arte Moderna do Rio de Janeiro and Petrobras, and presents new projects that are especially developed for this space, thereby continuing MAM Rio’s vocation to stimulate artists at consolidating moments in their career.
Since its foundation, the museum has maintained a commitment to promoting experimentation in different languages and cultural levels through its education and exhibition programmes. Along the way, exhibitions such as Opinião 65 and Opinião 66 made their mark, as well as the shows that were organised as part of Área Experimental. These initiatives welcomed artists who today are considered fundamental to Brazilian art, who at that time found that MAM Rio was a place where they could take risks and invent.
More recently, projects such as the exhibition series Supernova reasserted MAM Rio’s commitment to contemporary production and to fostering new artists, creating conditions for the development of new works and for the encounter between different languages in the museum.
Espaço Petrobras builds on this history by strengthening the shared commitment between MAM Rio and Petrobras to contemporary creation and to stimulating new authors, bringing the public closer to practices that help create the art of the future.
